Princeton Tec (www.princetontec.com) is recognized
worldwide as an industry leader for personal lighting products.
Founded in 1975 by Bill Stephens, the company was built on
Stephen’s vision to make the sport of scuba diving safer.
Princeton Tec started in the back room of a dive retail facility in
Princeton, New Jersey, where they developed their first product-
the Bottom Timer, a fully automatic underwater timing device. After
their successful launch, Princeton Tec began to firmly position
itself as an industry leader for underwater
instrumentation.
Mag-Lite, Often referred
to as "A Work of Art That Works®", the Maglite® and Mini Maglite®
flashlights have been honoured by the Japan Institute of Design and
by the Museum for Applied Art in Germany. Fortune and Money
magazines ranked Mag Instrument® products among the top 100
products that "America makes best". In 1996, the Wall Street
Journal referred to the Maglite® flashlight as "the Cadillac of
flashlights", and quoted then-CEO of Apple Computer Gilbert F.
Amelio as saying he wanted Apple to be "essentially the Maglite® of
computers".

The problem
with modern technology is that it's designed to work as part of a
complete system; take away one of the supports and it collapses.
The most important of these supports is power. Three quarters of
Africa has no mains electricity, and disposable batteries are
prohibitively expensive. It's more than a matter of modern
convenience. Without radio or television, people can't access news
or health information. Without phones they have no communication.
Without light, children can't do their homework. Often, all that's
needed is a means of marrying new technology with traditional power
sources - manual, animal, water, wind, simple combustion, etc. This
was the premise behind Freeplay's wind-up radios and torches, which
use manual effort to drive an electronic device.
